Shreveport Downtown Airport

Covered storage space for aircraft at Shreveport’s Downtown Airport is in brief supply, but the approaching relocation of some weather statement gear is likely to open room for far more hangars.

Interim air-port manager Stacy Kuba informs ‘The Times’ the need for hangars at Downtown Airport is testimony to the facility’s good results. The area’s casinos and its oil and all-natural gas business carry on to make Downtown Airport eye-catching to common aviation pilots. It is home base to further more than 300 planes, generally small, corporate or private aircraft. However, there are nothing but 175 hangars, 4 of which were constructed in the recent several years. Kuba claims there are 50 clients on a waiting list seeking to base their planes in the hangars.

Additional 67 hangars are airport possessed spaces. The airport has rented at least five lots this year, a huge amount in contrast to nearly stagnant progression ten years ago. The Louisiana freeway department’s modern aviation division will provide $652,222 in grants to Downtown Airport this year; the Federal Aviation Administration will supply an additional $150,000 in entitlement funds through its airport enhancement plan. Of those funds, no less than $90,000 will be used to help move in Downtown Airport’s Automated Surface Observation System, a weather tracking product, from the north side of the property, Kuba stated. The system demands a bare minimum, obstruction-free radius to operate properly.

Development started this spring on one the final lots the airport had left to rent out. The Tubreaux Aviation maintenance hangar is on the airport’s north side, the area Kuba said, is most favored with tenants since of its distance to the runway.
